Dataviva: 89% of Venezuelans support sovereignty and reject U.S. actions against VenezuelaCaracas, September 18, 2025.–

The most recent national survey conducted by pollster Dataviva between September 1 and 15 reveals a strong consensus among Venezuelans around the defense of sovereignty, along with an increase in affinity toward President Nicolás Maduro and a marked rejection of actions promoted by U.S. President Donald Trump against the country.

The study shows that nearly nine out of ten citizens (89%) believe Venezuela is a sovereign nation that cannot be threatened by any foreign power. Only 11% disagreed with this statement, confirming that the defense of sovereignty remains a point of consensus among the majority of the population.

When asked about the causes of U.S. hostilities, 88.9% of respondents said they were part of Trump’s attempt to promote regime change and overthrow President Maduro. By contrast, only 11.1% interpreted these actions as a legitimate effort against drug trafficking. A majority of Venezuelans also expressed willingness to defend the country in the event of foreign aggression: 77% stated they would be prepared to take on that responsibility, while 23% either declined or refrained from doing so.

Venezuelan oil strongly emerges as the underlying factor behind these tensions. Nine out of ten respondents (91%) believe this natural resource is the true cause of the measures promoted by the Trump administration.

On the domestic political front, the survey highlights the evolution of affinity with Nicolás Maduro, which rose from 64% in August to 70% in September, showing a 6-point increase attributed to his handling of the conflict in the face of U.S. threats. In contrast, opposition leader María Corina Machado records 92% rejection, while internationally, Donald Trump reaches a 97% disapproval level among Venezuelans surveyed.

Conclusions

The results of this study highlight a strong sense of national unity around the defense of sovereignty and a widespread perception that U.S. actions are driven by oil interests and attempts at regime change. At the same time, the data shows a positive evolution in affinity toward President Maduro, in contrast with the broad rejection of both opposition leaders and Donald Trump.
